Material World

About the owner

Robin SmithMaterial World (Daisy) is officially owned by ‘Southern Bloodstock’.  This was a racing partnership set up and run by Suzy Smith’s father, Robin Smith. Originally there were four joint owners each having an equal share (one leg each).  Each leg owner has since sold out to Robin - banking gains in value having also enjoyed a share out of the prize monies and the unique experience of being part of a fortunate group of people involved with an extraordinary mare.

Daisy has come to the end of her brilliant racing career.  Daisy has now taken on the role of a broodmare and produced a very special colt foal by Kayf Tara with a stable name of  ‘Ollie’ born on 22nd May 2009. Both Robin and trainer Suzy Smith were keen that Daisy should have a good home for breeding and eventually a long and happy retirement. They both share the view that ‘Daisy owes us nothing and we owe her much’.

Robin was not brought up with horses but became involved when his two daughters, Emma and Suzy, took up horse riding where they lived in Epsom.  The whole family shared the use of a lively ex arab racehorse, Royal Minstrel, which they all exercised at different times over Epsom Downs.

Other horses owned by Robin include a share in Natural Spring which is a very smart looking Generous mare which should have her debut on the racetrack in 2009.  Robin is a member of the Racehorse Owners Association and the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and recommends anyone involved in racing or breeding to join these very informative and supportive organisations.

Robin lives in West Wittering, West Sussex with his wife Carol and step-daughter Jessica. His other main interests are sailing, fishing and golf. Robin has recently finished his tour of duty as Commodore of the West Wittering Sailing Club and has served on the committee there for eleven years. His paid work includes executor support services which helps people with financial administration, Inheritance Tax Planning and estate management before and after death.

As there was good support for the idea, Robin has set up the ‘Material World Racing Club’ which will own the first foal by the celebrated top British stallion, Kayf Tara, out of Material World.   Members will have the opportunity to share in the enjoyment, participation and satisfaction of watching a foal out of a top quality mare develop and eventually race. If you would like to register your interest in being part of this fortunate group please either register for free under the Fan Club heading on the homepage of this website or contact Robin direct 01243 513933.
